Both state and county officials indicate that there will be further cuts in social and human services. The thought of any more cuts within those two entities is frightening. Each department is already overburdened and understaffed. As civil servants are encouraged to retire to ease the fiscal stress, their positions are not being replaced.Sunday July 13 13:53:38 2014 The passing of our Uncle Murray, June 10,2014. The Congress has a long history of heated debate, with a lot of strong opposition and stalemate. Controversy is nothing new."But I cry for our city. After watching the appalling circus, seeing lawyers' fees mount by the day, and a senseless waste of time that takes our sight off the bulls eye of making our town the best mid sized city in America, I sense that just the recall alone will cause some good and promising candidates to shy away from public service. I made sure I'd fit n my dogs as well. I love where I live n ended up on the BOD for the HOA for 3yrs before stepping down a couple months ago. If you don't like having an HOA Don't move there, do your homework before you buy where there is an HOA . Ask questions n get involved, after all it is your new neighborhood. Take n show some pride where you live. HOA do have a purpose. With that being said, I know firsthand the power tripping board members that do nothing for the good of the sub but their own n their friends agendas. It's like a good Ol boys committee, rules are made to be changed to protect the friends they go boating with or play sports with, they stay on the board with 3 out of 5 members they hang with so they always have majority vote when they dictate how things will be and it goes to a vote. The turnout at annual meetings drops to next to no one showing up due to rude n pushy bully tactics some use on the board.In the past year, there has been a very significant increase of almost 50% in the number of properties sold in the January to July period in Galway city and county, from 732 properties in 2013 to 1,085 properties in 2014. This has continued a trend apparent over the last number of years, where the number of properties sold has increased considerably year on year. Less than 450 properties were sold in the same period in 2011, showing a dramatic increase of 140% in the three year period 2011 to 2014. Indeed 100 more properties were sold in the first seven months of this year than in all of 2011. Why do we need to create jobs? Plus, this particular expansion will do nothing to create jobs for folks from here. who already have the expertise and the security clearance. and Charlottesville is also routinely cited as a city with a high poverty rate and astronomical cost of living. Our city has a poverty rate of about 18 percent, almost twice the state rate. I kind of get annoyed when people keep citing our unemployment rate as if that tells the whole story. When you compare our cost of living to other counties with similar situations our median income pales in comparision. Stafford, Spotsylania, Prince William, Fauquier, Chesterfield, Goochland, James City, and Chesapeake are just a few jurisdictions where the median household incomes is above Albemarle County. Notice how many of these places where the cost of living isn as high. In Stafford, Fauquier, and Spotsylvania the median incomes are 65k or higher. In Albemarle, its about 53,000. Now are you really going to tell everyone that the cost of living in Albemarle is 12,000 22,000 dollars cheaper a year than those counties?The only guarantee is that unchecked systems will continue to lose information. What would make a difference in the lackadaisical attitude toward security would be a looming threat of legal action against companies who lose information. It would also require that the courts put more emphasis on the burden that individuals face when their information is lost. When you are asked an open question it helps you think more about an issue. A closed question will not do that. It may force you to answer before you are ready, or require a "yes" or "no" answer that doesn't allow more thinking about the issue.
