I think $1,000 is so popular because it's such a round, general number. But also because it's the "four digit" benchmark so I think there's a psychological aspect to that. Kind of like why a product sells like gangbusters at $99.99, but when it jumps by a whopping penny up to $100, sales slide significantly. but I digress, I'm getting off topic (what? Me? Never. )
