Remember, you're buying time, so use speed to your benefit. If you have to blow tanks, you want to rise as slowwwww as possible, so you should kill all speed. Once you start coming back down, use all the speed, probably flank if your out of control, you need to slow the dive. Eventually you'll get things repaired to where speed will be enough to hold your depth level. Just try to time coming up when the DE's aren't making a run.
