A THHN wire is commonly used in homes and buildings to bring power from your electrical box to outlets, lights and appliances. Welding cable is more commonly used to hook up welders. One of the biggest differences is the flexibility of welding cable. The strands are made much smaller so that they bend easier and the insulation is manufactured with rubber rather than PVC for added flexibility as well. Installers want THHN wire to be less flexible so that they can push it through conduit and snake it through walls much easier. A flexible wire would get bundled in common THHN installations.
