Like a great deal of Tony Scott films, Unstoppable works far much better than it should. It applies standard Showmanship bombast to an ostensibly accurate story, starting with a plausible disaster scenario and then drowning it beneath any glut of preposterous spectacular contrivances. Everything goes to 14 here. If a runaway prepare is cool, then a runaway prepare carrying toxic chemicals needs to be ten times as neat and hey, how about a chemicalladen runaway train crashing right dozen oil tanks?! If Scott could possess gotten away with flinging a box rich in kittens in said train path, he would have done so without a second notion.
