Like many Tony Scott films, Unstoppable works far superior to it should. It applies standard Artist bombast to an ostensibly correct story, starting with a plausible disaster scenario then drowning it beneath the glut of preposterous spectacular contrivances. Everything goes to 12 here. If a runaway prepare is cool, then a runaway teach carrying toxic chemicals have to be ten times as nice and hey, how about a chemicalladen runaway train crashing into a dozen oil tanks?! If Scott could have gotten away with flinging a box filled with kittens in said coach path, he would have obeyed without a second concept.
